Nay's Film Reviews: Introductory Post

Far from trying to review every conceivable type of media, the purpose of this blog at least initially is going to be to review and catalogue my thoughts of each of the films produced by Studio Ghibli as I seem to have collected all of them on DVD. While I may decide to take a look at other films at a later date, this isn't intended to be a particularly serious look at the film industry's output so much as a way to remind myself of the contents of each film and to recommend various things to those reading.

In terms of Studio Ghibli's features, I'll be watching each film in chronological order starting with 3 films that aren't technically by the studio as such, but had either Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata or both involved with their production; The Little Norse Prince (1968), Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979), and Nausicaรค of the Valley of the Wind (1983). After this, I'll watch each feature in the Studio Ghibli Collection up to The Wind Rises (2013), unless of course The Tale of Princess Kaguya or When Marnie Was There, the latest films come out on DVD anytime soon.

I'll be watching the subtitled Japanese audio version of each film, to avoid any "dub bias", as the voice acting quality does tend to vary far more than the subtitle quality, at least for the English versions. In terms of ratings, I'll give each of the movies a mark out of 5 stars, which will probably include half-star ratings at the very least to distinguish the best from the very good and so on. If you have any memories or thoughts on the films I review, feel free to comment here or wherever I've linked to this review from.

That's all for now, but my first review, of The Little Norse Prince will be out shortly.
